Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for your prayers
as Rick had prostate cancer surgery today. He is currently resting
while watching the University of Miami football game.
Leading up to his 3 year anniversary lung transplant test, it was
suspected that he might have prostate cancer. Following his 3 year
anniversary test, it was confirmed and he had surgery today early this
morning to remove his prostate. The doctors seemed pleased with the
results and naturally we will have to wait for confirmation and tests in
3 months.
As always, we want to be
glorifying God through our journey. As it is necessary for Rick, at all
times, to wear a mask in hospital settings, there is
obviously a story behind "the mask" to be told.
Doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses, and assistants all had many
questions to ask. One individual in particular, while taking Rick from
recovery to his room, began asking and Rick started to explain the
reason for the mask. As Rick was being wheeled in his hospital bed to
his 10th floor room, he began to share the condensed version of his God
Story. He explained that someone had to die for him to be able to
continue to live on planet Earth, but that as God sent his Son to die
for all of us, we all have that opportunity through his Son's death to
have Eternal Life in Heaven. She agreed as she pondered deeply Rick's
words.
As God can only orchestrate, it turns
out that this individual assisting Rick was from the same town in
Georgia where Timothy, (Rick's donor), had been taken for his organ
donation harvesting procedure.
As a result
of our conversation with this lady, she shared with us that her mom
passed away in the very same town and that she had not been back since,
nor had a desire to do so. After conversing with her, her love for her
small town in Georgia had been rekindled and her desire to go back to
see family and friends was rejuvenated! We obviously shared our faith
with her and she shared hers with us.
That
was just one of many opportunities today that we had to be able to share
and encourage others in our "Breath of Life" journey.
